Birds are twittering happily in the early morning sunlight, and the hum of the washer below has a lulling effect. The air is full of anticipation as students load their cars and prepare for final exams. I haven't been on campus much recently, but it's an intensity that can be sensed in passing. I remember the thrill of finality well, although mine was slightly blotted by the knowledge that I'm not completely finished until my internship is complete. The past four months have passed with amazing rapidity (is that a word, or did I make it up?), and I'm beginning to feel the stirrings of excitement once again. Friends are signing job contracts, exploring various regions of the country, and preparing to continue in master's programs. I believe I am as excited for them as they are for themselves. It's so exciting to see the different paths everyone is choosing. I'm resolute in my desire to stay in touch with friends no matter where the wind takes us, and that has an excitement all its own.
Yesterday was quite a day for the inhabitants of Whistle Way. I received a call from Kristin, informing me that our friend Katy was back from her adventures on the Appalachian trail and visiting Milledgeville for the next few days. Excitedly, I agreed to an impromptu meeting at Scoops where there were several other members of the graduating class. It was just like old times except for the addition of a one-month-old and a babbling little boy. I also managed to record David's version of "Twinkle Twinkle" and captured some of Emily's more interesting faces along the way. While the camera was on her, she gave her first attempt at a laugh and then proceeded to lift her head for the first time! David ended up puking shortly after going to bed, and while less than stellar, it was undeniably an event.
Tonight is taco night with the Burns, and tomorrow is the beginning of a weekend in Guyton. I'm thinking there might be a date with Spiderman in a dark movie theater, but one can never be too sure about these things. We're hoping to begin our Augusta investigations Monday, so cross your fingers and say a few prayers that we'll find what we're looking for. I'm feeling spiritually energized again, and I love that God is showing me beauty in the little things. Evening walks around the neighborhood are doing wonders for my faith. Staring at the dazzling springtime sunsets places me in His presence like very little else.
On a completely unrelated note, I'm thoroughly engrossed in "The Order of the Phoenix." I'm twenty pages from the end and ready to dive into the sixth book. Unfortunately, I have to wait until late July for book seven to hit shelves. It'll break my groove.
I love feeling so passionate about life!
