Updates

I was caught in the storm of the century on my way back to Milledgeville last night. I was trying to outrun a freaky looking greenish cloud, but ended up turning into it near Sandersville. A small tree had fallen across the road, and I felt panic rising as the rain fell even harder. Needless to say, I eventually made it back to Milledgeville in one piece, and I doubt that I have ever been so happy to see a Baldwin County sign. As I wearily hauled my luggage up the stairs, I noticed a small toad huddling against the door of a ground level apartment. He wasn't a very big fan of the weather, either. At least I was in good company.

For those who don't know already, I'm getting married on September 2nd, which means that life has been very crazy lately. I've been doing a lot of planning, registering, and other necessary things. If you have to ask me who I'm marrying, you're not invited. Hehe. I'm very excited, but I can understand why people elope. This is a very big step in a new direction, but I know who's coming with me...and that's all that matters.

Away!

I'm currently vacationing in New Smyrna Beach, FL with my aunt, uncle, and cousins. It is absolutely beautiful here, but there is one drawback. No phone, and no internet. Eep! It was only by a stroke of luck that I stumbled across this public access laptop in a local coffee shop. I have to pay one dollar to use it, so I better make good use of my time. I don't know if I will be back online again before Friday, but I love and miss everyone. I have lots of beautiful pictures that I will develop and post soon. Mom's super nice Canon 35 mm is wonderful.

Take me out with the crowd

Pre-game picture - just to prove all four of us were actually in the same place at the same time.

Honestly. Who thought this pose was a good idea?

Ten minutes until game time! Thanks to Mr. Otwell for the super nice seats.

Forty-five minute rain delay - I'm glad we were under cover.

I got bored during the delay and started turning my friends into photo subjects

Erin doesn't think I should be allowed to hold a camera. I think she's wrong.

Yaaaay Smoltz

Again!

Turner Field

I was captivated by the lights

And wanted to experiment with different settings

So. This was the first Braves game I had ever been to. They were playing the Cardinals, and I was preparing myself for a loss. The first two innings were really bad, but as soon as the rain hit, the Braves scored two back-to-back home runs. Unfortunately, rain means a rain delay. The game resumed at 9:00, and the Braves went on to win. I never realized how many balls fly into the stands. I never dreamed that a foul ball would come straight back from home plate, fly over the net, and land two rows below us. I loved every minute of the game, but that had a lot to do with our seats and the time of day. I don't think I would enjoy it half as much in the blazing sun. I began to realize why so many people love baseball. I lost all track of time, and it didn't even seem to matter. I forgot about everything except watching the game. There was a quiet calm as I gazed across the green, heard the crack of a bat, and scanned the Atlanta lights. It's the first year in my memory that the Braves haven't been on top, but after seeing them last night, I realize that I still love them as much as I did in 1995.

Dad cooked gumbo for the fourth, and we invited family over for lunch. I enjoyed both the gumbo and the family time immensely. It was a very good day. The kind of day that makes me sink into my sheets smilingly.

P.S. By some miracle, I got a B in Anatomy. I'm just a little proud.
